The documentary series The Nazi Cartel features the true story of former DEA agent Michael Levine. 

In 1979, Levine was an undercover agent deployed to Argentina and later Bolivia, where he investigated a major cocaine trafficking operation led by Bolivian businessman Roberto Suárez Gómez. Unbeknownst to the DEA at the time, Suárez was collaborating with notorious Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie (also known as Klaus Altmann) and a group of neo-Nazi mercenaries. 

This collaboration culminated in the violent 1980 "Cocaine Coup" in Bolivia, which established the world's first "narcostate," a government run by drug dealers that earned billions from the trade and brutally repressed opponents. The documentary uses interviews and archive material to tell the story of these events and the connection between Nazism and drug trafficking.
